Fine hardcovers in cream-colored faux vellum cloth bindings with gilt lettering on red and blue leather spine labels. Set in Lasercomp Poliphilus and bound in full elephanthide. Volumes are in 2 maroon slipcases with gilt lettering (each slipcase contains 4 volumes). Volumes 1-4 are edited, with an introduction, by Betty Radice. Volumes 5-8 are edited, with an introduction, by Felipe Fernandez-Armesto. Each volume is illustrated with 20-30 illustrations and maps. Each volume has an introduction and index. The 8 volumes are: 1. The Turn of the Tide. 2. Constantine and the Christian Empire. 3. The Revival and Collapse of Paganism. 4. The End of the Western Empire. 5. Justinian and the Roman Law. 6. Mohammed and the Rise of the Arabs. 7. The Normans in Italy and the Crusades. 8. The Fall of Constantinople and the Papacy in Rome. All volumes with clean pages and sound, tight binding. Very minor scuffing to slipcases.
